The new state covers a land area larger than Rhode Island and Delaware combined. The Front Range urban corridor includes the municipalities of Golden, Lakewood, Arvada, Broomfield, Boulder, Longmont, Loveland, and Fort Collins.
The Front Range is home to several prominent federal institutions, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as well as the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and the National Ice Core Laboratory (NICL). The Federal Center, located in Lakewood, houses the largest concentration of federal agencies outside of Washington, D.C. The area's research universities, such as the University of Colorado at Boulder and Colorado State University in Fort Collins, are renowned for their contributions to aerospace, environmental science, and engineering.
The region’s elevation shapes its landscape, with Longs Peak rising to 14,259 feet above sea level. Rocky Mountain National Park, near the town of Estes Park, spans over 265,000 acres and offers more than 350 miles of trails, attracting over 4 million visitors annually. The national park is known for its alpine lakes, wildlife, and sweeping mountain views. Front Range also includes mountain parks like Genesee Park, home to a herd of bison, and Eldorado Canyon State Park, famous for its rock climbing.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre, near Morrison, is one of the most famous outdoor music venues in the world and has hosted performances by artists like U2 and Coldplay. Front Range is also recognized for its vibrant arts scene, with galleries, performing arts, and events like the annual Shakespeare Festival.
